Sirang mountain

In Jecheon, big mountain chain passes by Jaksung Mountain and Dong Mountain and this big mountain chain is connected to Geumsu Mountain(1,015.8 m). This is the boundary of Danyang-gun Jeoksung-myeon. This mountain chain is related to Geumsu Mountain and Gabo peak and Sinsunbong(845.3 m) which is the highest peak of this mountain chain. Sinsunbong passes by Jeoseungbong(596 m) and Jogaribong(562 m) and meet up with Cheonpoong Lake around Dowha-li Chuijeokdae. This road of ridges makes strange rocks and cliffs and this road is covered with old pine trees. You can enjoy this wonderful sight. And, to the left and the right of the ridges, there are Neunggang Valley and Hakhyeon Valley. Many people find these valleys in summer. Above all, this place is famous for its course of marathon at Geumsu Mountain. It has been held for 8 years since 2004. Sinsunbong is called 'Hakbawibong'. 774 peaks resemble the crane which is about to fly and these peaks are called 'Hakbong'. The name Hakhyeon-li is based on this rock. On the ridges from Jeoseungbong, there are several rocks of fantastic shapes. Kingkong rock, Meongmeongii rock, Sonbadak rock, Motnanii rock, Horse rock, Seal rock and so on. The names are interesting. Hakhyeon-li which is the town under 'Sinsunbong' is the wilds of Jecheon. This is surrounded by a rocky mountains and the ruins of castle are remained in the northern town. If you want to enter 'Hakhyeon-li', you should pass Youngachii in front of Cheongpoong Bridge. If you see Hakhyeon-li at Youngachii Valley, you can find Dong Mountain in the northern place and Sinsunbong in the southern place. And you can find Gabo Valley also. This valley looks faint because this valley is far from this place.

Sight of Geumsu Mountain is seen and this sight is gorgeous as the best part of hiking. If you stand on rocks which were made here and there, you can view the southern sight. Mangduckbong(926m), Gamabong(635m), Little sanbatbong(485m) from Geumsu Mountain are connected to ridges and these ridges spread to the sky. Strange and fantastic cliffs and old pine trees are harmonized among the sea of clouds. Hanyangji Eoleumgol is located at the end of the valley among Geumsu Mountain and Mangduckbong. Cheongpoong Lake is also beautiful because this lake passes the mountain chain before fainting.

You can see 800m Seongbong(825 m) and Joongbong(885.6 m) mountains to the northern side. Sight of town which is connected to Hakhyeon Valley under mountains is really affectionate. Ridges are steep and steep Ambong continues. If you want to go up to 774 bongs which are called Hakbong, you should use the ropes which are tied to the rocks. Slope is steep, but stepping is possible. And strong ropes are tied to the rocks so it is not hard to go up.

Behind the Hakhyeon supermarket in front of Hakhyeon-li Jecheon Youth and Family Center, the trail is connected. Hakhyeon supermarket is traveler's favorite supermarket. You should prepare water at this place. If you pass Hakhyeon supermarket and go straight to south valley about 200m, you can find Wapok. And then, if you pass this Wapok and cross the valley, the trail is connected to ridges.

The trail which is zigzag is connected among the old pine trees and if you go through this trail for 30 minutes, you can find steep Amreung. If you pass this Amreung, you will descend and then you will climb over other Amreung. If you go up through the mountain path for 20 minutes, you can reach the tomb of Juneungsunsang.

From this tomb to the peak of Sinsunbong, smooth dirt road continues. Course of national marathon contest of Geumsu Mountain is this road thus this was well treated. But this road is covered with forests so you can barely view sights.

At the peak of Sinsunbong, there are three ways. And it has the wooden sign of 'Sinsunbong 845m' on the stone tower. Descending roads are two. They lead to Sanghakhyeon and to Geumsu Mountain passing through 900m peak. If you go to Geumsu Mountain, it takes a long time so you should start from the starting point in the morning.

Descending way to Sanghakhyeon has a smooth dirt road. If you go down through the smooth mountain path for 15 minutes, oak trees are there in which you can find the forest road. If you go down through this forest road, you can find a house which is called 'Yesu town' across the left valley. If you go down through the farm road for 20 minutes, you can reach 'Sanghakhyeon' which is the town under Gabo hill.

Time for sections: Hakhyeon supermarket - (1 hour) - Crane rock, Seal rock, Monnani rock, Sonbadak rock - (1 hour) - three ways of tomb of ridge - (30 minutes) - Peak of Sinsunbong - (15 minutes) - Forest road - (30 minutes) - Sanghakhyeon

If you start at Hakhyeon supermarket and hike Sinsunbong, sights, the ridges are not wonderful. If you want to go up to Sinsunbong, you had better pass Jogaribong and Jeoseungbong. We can see the sights around amreung with several strange rocks. Especially, at Sonbadak rock, you can view Cheongpoong Lake and Bibong Mountain.

Trail spreads to the right side of Sonbadak rock. Course from Sonbadak rock to 774 peaks which is called Hakbong is the steepest section. If you grasp installed ropes and go down, you can find 744 peaks and two thick ropes are tied to 744 peaks. If you are a beginner, you should accompany experienced people. You should pay more special attention in the winter.

If you pass 744 peaks, you can find a tomb at the ridge. In this place, you can view beautiful sights. After this place, the mountain path is connected to the forest of oak trees and then this path reaches the peak of Sinsunbong.
